Curry Leaves Soup / Kariveppilai Soup

Its Thursday...and here is what I have for today in my Organic Cooking Series. This is another miraculous plant which offers enormous health and medicinal benefits. Yes, It is none other than our simple, humble, " Curry Leaves (Called Kadi Patta in Hindi).

It is mainly used as a flavoring agent and is an integral part of South Indian Cuisine and is also used in Siddha/Ayurveda Medicines to treat various ailments.

Curry leaves are known to have several medicinal properties such as anti-diabetic, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic and protects the liver from damage.

Curry Leaves have abundant of  carbohydrates, fiber, calcium, phosphorous, irons and vitamins like vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin E. It helps in better functioning of heart and promotes hair and skin health.

It promotes hair growth, repairs damaged hair root cells, reduces hair fall and strengthen the hair follicles.

Here's a simple yet flavourful Soup recipe with goodness of Garlic and pepper. The Dhall makes it a complete meal by itself.

Drumstick Greens / Murungai Keerai Soup

Drumstick Greens which is called Murungai Keerai in Tamil is one miraculous greens which is not much valued by us even though we know the amount of health aspects it provide us with. It is a power packed green with lot of nutritious elements. Even a recent report published showed that it has the ability to cure 5 different kinds of cancer. It has more amount of Iron than Spinach and bountiful amount of calcium when compared to milk.It also offers a good amount of Protein, Vitamin A (Beta Carotene) and Vitamin C.

It has excellent antioxidant, anti inflammatory and tissue protective properties. It helps in controlling Sugar Levels in Diabetic Patients, good for Cardio Vascular Health and also beneficial for liver health.

Here is a Soup Recipe made with this amazing green to harness the huge amount of benefits that it offers.

Healthy Breakfast Series - Lauki/ Bottle Gourd Wraps and Lettuce Cream Soup

Its a resolution for this year that I should make a completely balanced and healthy breakfast for my hubby to kick start the day and am experimenting on few Healthy Breakie Combos. In that series, today it is Lauki Wrap in my Wonder Wrap Series which I made both Sweet and Savory Versions and Lettuce Cream Soup.

Lauki/Bottle Gourd is a Vitamin C and Antioxidant Rich Veggie and it has lot of water content in it. It hydrates the body and a best remedy for Urinary Infections during Summer season. Also it helps in Weight loss and help in digestion. Being a Zero Cholesterol Veggie it helps in preventing Heart Ailments. Including this veggie in a Wrap with Paneer is a best way for making kids to eat this veggie. I made the sweet version with Iron Rich Gulkhand (Made of Rose Petals and Jaggery / Honey).

Lettuce is a well known Low calorie green leafy vegetable which is why it is included in diet by Weight Watchers. Mostly taken as Salad. It is rich in Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Protein Content. It also has lot of Vitamin C and Beta Carotene and is good for healthy heart.

Here I have given a easy Soup recipe with lettuce which can be made in less than 10 minutes and it is a fulfilling one for the breakfast.

Manithakkali Keerai Thannisaaru / Black Night Shade Greens Soup

Manithakkali Keerai / Black Night Shade is a wonder greens and it is loaded with huge amount of medicinal benefits. Similar to Agathi Keerai (Sesbania grandiflora) it has the property to cure ulcers and very good for Stomach Irritation and other digestive ailments. I have also posted other recipe Manithakkali Keerai Kootu.

This Thannisaaru is one recipe which helps in harnessing the complete benefits of this miraculous green. After a day of fasting its good to start with this Thannisaaru as it acts as a coolant and make us feel comfortable and cure ulcers. This recipe has Coconut added which is also used in treating ulcers. The flavor imparted by Sesame and Cumin is unique and it serves as a good appetizer too. It can be served as soup or with hot rice.

Amla / Nellikaai Soup

Amla or Indian Gooseberry is one miracle fruit which is loaded with health benefits. It is known for it high Vitamin C content and is an excellent antioxidant. It not only act as a body coolant but also promotes healthy hair growth hence used in Hair Oils widely. It flushes out the toxins, eliminates free radicals and enhances fertility. It improves the muscle tone and promotes healthy skin.

This is one most neglected fruit as far as our diet is concerned but including this everyday into our meals will help us to harness the potential benefits of this fruit. Instead of taking it as a Juice here I have come up with a variation  of Soup with Amla which tasted too good and it became a routine of our Breakie once in a week for a refreshing day.

Amla with Moong Dhall is a healthy combo and it tastes great with a unique flavour.

ABC Soup - A Miracle Soup

Recently been seeing this name "Miracle Drink" in all the food websites and forums..the ABC Drink which is nothing but Apple, Beetroot and Carrot, which has gained its fame due to the in numerous health benefits along with the antioxidant and anti cancerous properties it imparts.

As the saying goes, An apple a day keeps the doctor away..the apples are truly miraculous fruits packed with disease-fighting vitamins and antioxidants. They have been found to lower the risk of chronic diseases including Type 2 diabetes, Cancer, Heart Ailments, and Dementia.

The antioxidant beta-carotene is what that impart carrots their bright orange color. Beta-carotene in carrots is absorbed in the intestine and gets converted into vitamin A during digestion. Carrots are loaded with fiber, vitamin K, potassium, folate, manganese, phosphorous, magnesium, vitamin E and zinc.

Betanin in beets has the anti-cancer property. Betacyanin in beetroot juice prevents the formation of cancerous tumours and detoxifies our body from harmful toxins.  Researches show that it reverse cancer like leukaemia, lung, skin, and breast, prostate and testicular cancer. Also known to have critical impact on people suffering from stomach cancer by inhibiting cancer cell mutation.

Should I justify more why this ABC is a miraculous combo..It is advisable to take this in empty stomach to harness the complete benefits..but how can we make it more palatable so that even the kids can gain the benefits too..With this in mind I came up with this idea..ABC Soup...

My son really enjoyed and it tasted great..
